Beat Squad
Beat Squad is an exciting factual series on TV One that features behind-the scenes access to New Zealand community police officers as they protect neighbourhood’s from crime.
Community based crime continues to be a problem throughout New Zealand. Whether it is tagging, car conversions or burglary - it is a blight for small communities. Sometimes the crime is random – often it is the result of organized criminals or juvenile delinquent gangs. The outcome is the same; a sense of unease and fear among the community. The evidence of this criminal behaviour is easy to see – fences and shop fronts defaced with graffiti, bus shelters vandalized, cars broken into.
In the front line dealing with these problems are the male and female officers of New Zealand’s community police force. As part of a new initiative to address these problems the government has pledged funding for an extra 250 community constables. They will target crime hotspots and individuals who are of concern to both the community and the police.
