Highway Cops – We’re back with our favourite members of New Zealand’s Highway Patrol as they tirelessy work their way up and down our country’s varied and volatile highways and byways – dealing with everything that’s thrown their way.
This season we also introduce officers based in the Canterbury region.
From the breath-taking scenery of Lakes Tekapo and Pukaki with the stunning back-drop of Mt Cook, to the natural beauty of Hanmer springs and all the straight roads and mountain passes in between.
If it can happen on the road, it’s likely to in Canterbury’s vast district. Two cars racing each other along open straights at upwards of 150K, flipped cars, insecure loads, break-downs, centre line crossers – just to name a few.
In the centre of the North Island, in Central district, Highway Patrol officers help detain a violent man…who uses his dog as a weapon, as well as stopping speeding convoys, speeding drunks, and road-ragers in their tracks. Covering the Taranaki, Whanganui and Manawatu regions the stops are as diverse as the geographical areas the officers cover.
The Tasman region at the top of the South Island covers 70,000 square kilometres of terrain – from sun-kissed tourist hot-spots Nelson, Picton and Blenheim to the more isolated wild West Coast. Tasman based highway patrol officers are ready for anything. Trucks stuck in the mud, cars held together with string, even a car load of topless revellers cant deter Tasman officers from keeping the roads safe.
No series would be complete without the Southern Districts Road policing staff. Covering the largest geographical area of all road policing districts and boasting various mountain passes, scenic routes and tourism hot-spots – beauty can quickly become lethal in one of New Zealand’s most visited regions. The officers deal with remote crashes, a car plunging down a cliff, drunk drivers and all sorts of characters in between.
Funny, frightening, sometimes appalling and often heart-warming, ‘Highway Cops’ follows the efforts of our highway patrol officers as they strive to educate and protect everyone on New Zealand’s roads.
