130 episodes x 30mins | TVNZ 1

Top Rating Series Border Patrol returns for an outstanding 12th series following the men, women, smart technology and clever animals working for New Zealand Customs Service, Biosecurity NZ and Immigration New Zealand.

We follow dedicated border staff working on the frontlines of Border Security around the clock, checking for drugs and illegal goods, and intercepting packages carrying potentially harmful pests and diseases, that if introduced into New Zealand could cripple our economy overnight.  We are with officers as they constantly monitor, identify and screen incoming passengers who may be undesirable arrivals into our country.

Filming for this series took place at Auckland and Christchurch International Airports, Customs Air Cargo Inspection Facility and the International Mail Centre in Auckland.

Among Customs border interceptions are a variety of illicit drugs worth millions of dollars had they made it onto New Zealand streets. Viewers get a firsthand view of Customs staff keeping one step ahead of smugglers attempts, as they intercept illegal drugs cleverly concealed within lamp shapes, bench grinders, solar lamps and even in body lotion.

At the International Mail Centre and International Airports, we follow Biosecurity NZ officers as they monitor passengers and mail for undeclared food items, plant material, animal products and endangered species, these could all pose a serious risk to New Zealand’s Biosecurity. This series the finds include taxidermy items found at the Mail Centre ranging from CITIES protected owl to Buffalo head. At the airport Biosecurity officers deal with brown marmorated stink bugs trying to high hike to New Zealand, American spiritual healer bringing in a range of prohibited items or First Nation indigenous passengers bringing in some remarkable cultural treasures.

Our cameras are there following Immigration New Zealand staff as they vigilantly monitor passengers arriving at Auckland International airport. They deal with everything from people trying to establish a dangerous and illegal business in New Zealand, Irish travellers with no money and checkered past, and possible sex workers.

Border Patrol, screens on TVNZ1 and TVNZ+, will continue to give viewers remarkable insights into the exciting frontline job of protecting New Zealand’s border.
