Emergency was filmed in Wellington Hospital’s Emergency Department. It gives viewers a unique opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes of the region’s busiest ED.
The cutting-edge series is different from other medical programmes on television. The focus isn’t solely on the patients, the aim is to really understand what brings the staff of the Emergency Department to work every day.
“For most people the Emergency Department is the last place they want to end up. But for the staff, they choose to come in five days a week, and they love it. We wanted to explore what drives them on and how they cope in such a stressful environment,” says producer Jenny Williams.
The series had unprecedented access with a TV crew working there fulltime for 7 months. The result is 12 episodes which give an extraordinary glimpse into the work the staff do.
