An up-to-the-minute, topical, 9.30pm chat show starring Mr Mike King and featuring the irreverent comedy style that has made him a household name.
The show is built around an established star, and – in the style of David Letterman – it follows the tried and true classic chat show format. Recorded weekly in front of a live studio audience, Mike King TONIGHT is a hip mix of studio guests, stand-up comedy, live music, field items and recurring comic characters. Mike King writes a lot of the material, supported by a strong team of writers and contributors.
The show is an ‘occasion’: a big event with top entertainers and a live band. It is taped in a TV theatre with an audience of several hundred people. There is a simple and functional set – host’s desk, interview chairs, performance area, band area. The studio is lit well but not brightly, to give a sophisticated night-time look.
