The Outsiders turning their lives around

The Outsiders

3 episodes x 60 minutes | TVNZ

The Outsiders gives a dozen at-risk Maori youths the opportunity to turn their lives around. It showcases the potential these young men have and reveals how different their lives can be when they have opportunity and support.

The Outsiders follows the 12 Maori boys through a three week summer programme tailor made to turn their lives around. They are 15-16 years old and have already been excluded from mainstream education. They have no formal qualifications and for many alcohol and drug taking is a regular part of life. If we are to believe the statistics, they are headed towards a future stint in jail.

The programme aims to inspire the boys to put direction and purpose into their lives.
