Celebrating the million kiwi volunteers in our community

Unsung Heroes

10 episodes x 30 minutes | TVNZ

Every year more than a million Kiwis volunteer in our community.

They are the backbone of our non-profit organisations, which keep our country running – literally. They offer their time and expertise in emergency services, working with the homeless, youth at risk, caring for people and animals that would be lost without them.

Unsung Heroes feature over 18 organisations including the Maori Wardens, St Johns paramedics, The Auckland City Mission, The SPCA and Wellington Night Shelter.  Producer Bridgid Davis says, “We were staggered by the amount of volunteers that work on top of fulltime jobs. These people are at the forefront of social and emergency services making sure people don’t fall through the gaps. We were humbled by the work that they do and their endless energy.”

The show is a mixture of gritty frontline work and feel good volunteering. It shows the amazing work these Kiwis do everyday for love not money.
